In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. PROVERBS 3:6 ESV 

Like many of us, my sister, Priscilla, imagined a different life than the one she has today. Specifically, she was taking the steps she needed for a career in television.  But that’s not where she ended up. She explains, “I was walking that path, and the Lord kept putting opportunities in front of me.” 

Whatever your plan has been, I want you to begin noticing the opportunities that God is putting in front of you. Maybe a woman at church has invited you to co-lead a small group with her. Or perhaps you won a contest for a scholarship to a weekend artist’s retreat. Maybe you’ve always had a knack for working on automobiles, wanting to learn more, and you just inherited your grandfather’s 1970 Dodge Dart. Notice the opportunities that are before you. 

When it comes to discovering the gift of who we are, I know that everybody wants a formula. If you’re one of those people, today is your lucky day. Because I think the formula is simply this: do the next thing. Priscilla agrees, “I did what was in front of me to do. I just kept doing the next thing. Now I’m standing in the middle of God’s purpose.” 

What are some of the opportunities that God is putting in front of you in this season? List them and identify what your “next thing” will be. 

God, I am ready to walk with You. Open my eyes to the opportunities You have put in front of me, and give me courage to do my “next thing” with You. Amen.
