Treasure Up

Mary was treasuring up all these things in her heart and meditating on them. Luke 2:19

Often when your heart is burdened, your mind won’t turn off. Thoughts about the whys and what ifs can replay over and over, and before you know it, you’ve spent thirty minutes rabbit-trailing down different scenarios, only to find your thoughts in the same place they began. This can be frustrating and futile when all you want are answers or an understanding of why.

The best way to capture your thoughts and steer them in a positive and peaceful direction is to do what Mary did: Treasure up God’s truths and meditate on them. This means taking a promise from God’s Word and choosing to dwell on what it means for you. As Oswald Chambers says, “Let God’s truth work into you by immersing yourself in it, not by worrying into it.”

Will you commit to finding a verse that speaks to you, and allow yourself to truly rest in its truth as your own?

Dear Lord, I need Your help with reining in my thoughts. It’s hard to settle my mind because I want answers, and I want them now. I want to change the bad that’s happened to me. I want to do away with the control my pain has over me. Will You please lead me to a verse that will help me today? I want to learn it, claim it, and abide in it. I simply want more of You in my mind to bring the comfort and peace I so long for.

IN YOUR SWEET NAME, I PRAY. AMEN.
