The Lord Is Your Banner

After the victory, the Lord instructed Moses, “Write this down on a scroll as a permanent reminder.” Exodus 17:14
Keeping track of the presence of God in your life is a valuable way to stay encouraged and hopeful. It is easy to allow the good things to slip from your mind as they get replaced by more urgent needs, hurtful words, or difficult experiences. But your heart and mind need regular reminders of how faithful God has been to you and your family. Just think: As constantly as he watches over you, guides you, and loves you through the ups and downs, you could write pages and pages of positive things and still not capture the complete account! As John said about all that Jesus had done, “The whole world could not contain the books that would be written” (John 21:25).
Remembering God’s faithfulness is not just for your sake but for your family’s as well. After the victory of Exodus 17, Moses built an altar of remembrance and named it Yahweh-Nissi, “the Lord is my banner” (Exodus 17:15). For generations afterward, the Israelites would see that altar and have reason to celebrate their identity as God’s protected ones. As a child of God, you carry his colors too. He is your banner, going before you in parenting and everything else, giving you so much to remember and tell your children about. He is ready to bless you and show you his faithfulness exactly when you need it.
God will always be faithful to you. Even when it doesn’t feel like he is working on your behalf, he is.
