Role Model

Noah did everything exactly as God had commanded him. Genesis 6:22 NLT
When you become a mom, it doesn’t take long to learn that what you do and say is being observed. This realization can feel scary, but it really is an amazing gift. As your children mimic you, you may realize what a huge blessing (and responsibility) you’ve been given to raise little ones who are learning about God and the world—from you. Especially in those early years, your children learn first in your home and in your care. As they grow, they will live and serve God and others in ways that you have helped to shape.
Like you, Noah and his wife modeled to their children how to follow and obey God. Can you imagine what it would have been like for Noah’s family? God calls to Noah one day and turns his family’s life upside down (Genesis 6:9-22). It’s easy to see how being a role model in obeying God would have been difficult. First, they had to build a giant boat. Noah didn’t do this work on his own; the whole family would have participated all those years. Then they had to gather and organize all the necessary supplies. Finally, they had to herd the animals into their places on board. People probably thought they were crazy! But Noah’s family led the way in obedience.
Noah, his wife, and their whole family were able to be good role models because they were trusting God and relying on him to provide what they needed. We do the same as mothers for our children, our families, and other people we interact with. Shaping our children to love and serve God means we must rely on God to provide what we need. And like he did for Noah, God always comes through, maybe even with a rainbow (Genesis 9:12-17).
We can love each other because he first loved us (1 John 4:19). Every bit of love you pour into your kids came first from the love that God has lavished on you.
