Quiet Time

I have calmed and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with its mother; like a weaned child is my soul within me. PSALM 131:2

I rarely get time to myself. In the midst of work and home life, I find the moments to just be still are few and far between. Sometimes we need time to get re-grounded. Whether it’s because of a stressful day, the felt need to remove ourselves from the chaos around us or simply to pray, it helps to find a quiet spot to regroup. We can even find this when there is busyness around us. Washing dishes can let us focus on one task, calming our hearts and souls. Taking a shower can give us the opportunity to renew our minds as we close our eyes and listen to the water fall around us. We might even try imagining Jesus washing away any pain, worry, or shame down the drain. In these moments, we can ask for forgiveness or intentionally open our hearts to receive God’s love for us. I often find that it’s during these quiet times that I hear ideas from God or little reminders of things to do.

We can find a quiet spot in our homes or at the local coffee shop, build a campfire, or spend time in nature. For those of us who live near water, maybe it’s sitting by the beach or listening to the river or putting our feet in the lake. It doesn’t matter what our personal retreats look like as long as we make space to still our minds and hearts so that we might rest in God’s love.

GO FOR IT!

We all need quiet time to restore our souls, in addition to sleeping of course. Where can you find rest and relaxation, even if it's only for a few moments each day? Does it involve water, being out in nature, or a cozy spot in your home? What do you need to come to God with today during this time to truly restore your soul? Today, I encourage you to spend some time in this spot or try out a new one.

Let God renew you today!
