Not So Ordinary

The Bible encourages us not to compete for power, position, or influence or to seek the recognition and approval of people the world thinks are “important” (or try to become those people ourselves). The truth is, we are all important to God; each of us is special to Him. Each of us was created by Him to live forever with Him. As C. S. Lewis puts it, “There are no ordinary people. You have never talked to a mere mortal.”

Now, not everybody knows it—or acts like it! But what a difference it makes when we do know how special we are to God, when we do act like it—when we live as if it matters, as if we matter. Because we do. And what an impact we can have when we treat others as special, when we show them they matter too.

If you only look at us, you might well miss the brightness. We carry this precious Message around in the unadorned clay pots of our ordinary lives. II Corinthians 4:7 THE MESSAGE

That’s also how it is with people. The ones who stop doing evil and make themselves pure will become special. Their lives will be holy and pleasing to their Master, and they will be able to do all kinds of good deeds. II Timothy 2:21 CEV

You are the ones chosen by God, chosen for the high calling of priestly work, chosen to be a holy people, God’s instruments to do His work and speak out for Him, to tell others of the night-and-day difference He made for you. I Peter 2:9 THE MESSAGE

Live in harmony with each other. Don’t be too proud to enjoy the company of ordinary people. Romans 12:16 NLT

Lord, let my love for others help them to see how extraordinary You’ve created them to be. Help me to treat them the way You treat me.
