More Than a Market

When you need groceries, you might make a list and take a trip to your local supermarket. Otherwise, (unless you work there!) you probably won't go back until your cupboards start to look bare again.

God invites you to bring your list of needs, wants, and requests to Him in prayer, and He promises to listen and respond according to His wisdom. But prayer is so much more than a spiritual supermarket, not visited again until your heart's cupboard feels bare and you have another long list in your hands. Prayer is also an opportunity to express to God your feelings for Him and your gratitude for all He does for you. It's a time to lay your burdens at His feet and receive the comfort of His forgiveness and assurance of His love. Prayer offers you a unique occasion to simply let your heart sing for the happiness of His presence and the joy of belonging to Him.

Go to God in prayer every day, even several times a day. And occasionally go without your list. Call on Him without needing anything, except the pleasure of telling your God how glad you are to know Him!

The Lord will send His faithful love by day; His song will be with me in the night - a prayer to the God of my life.

Psalm 42:8 HCSB
