It's Very Personal

You relate to a friend the offensive remark you heard from someone. "Ignore it," she tells you. "Don't take it personally." That's certainly wise advice for any careless or ill-considered comment you might come across!

God's Word, however, is something you do want to take personally. Very personally. Not one of His promises was made without His clear intention, or outside His will and power to carry it through. Even more, His scriptural promises apply to you. When He promises that He will hear your prayers, He means exactly what He says. When He promises to forgive you when you come to Him with a repentant heart, He won't go back on His pledge, no matter what it is that you've done. When He promises to be there for you wherever you may be, you can go to the bank with it.

Joy. Peace. Rest. Strength. Help. Comfort. When it's one of God's promises, do take it personally. Expect it to happen. Apply it to your thoughts, words, and actions. Live it in your day-to-day life. God's promises are meant for you personally.

And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world's corruption caused by human desires.
