Heart Health

What God does in us when we come to faith could be compared to a heart transplant: He gives us a new heart. With that new lease on life usually comes a desire to build up that heart and keep it strong.

To ensure our success after such a life-saving procedure, the Great Physician has prescribed a long-term plan for heart health that includes exercise, good nutrition, fresh air and sunshine, and a strong support team. The exercise of spiritual disciplines and routines. The daily bread of His Word. The fresh air of forgiveness and repentance. Lots of Sonlight. And friends, family, and spiritual teachers who will support and encourage us.

God’s plan includes His personal guarantee. We can trust it because His directives have been field-tested in the lab of life, verified in eternity, and given heaven’s seal of approval. They will never be replaced or recalled, and they can’t be improved on.

There’s one surefire way I know of to live healthy and live strong. Stay on Doctor’s orders. He knows best.

If Your instructions hadn’t sustained me with joy, I would have died in my misery. I will never forget Your commandments, for by them You give me life. (Psalm 119:92-93 NLT)

Thank You for my new heart and my new chance at life. I look to You and Your plan to cultivate daily routines that will nourish my heart and lead me to health.
