Great is Thy Faithfulness

Let me hear of Your unfailing love each morning, for I am trusting You. Show me where to walk, for I give myself to You. Psalm 143:8 NLT
If you’ve ever watched a sunrise, you know that the transition from night to day can be breathtaking. As light begins to spill out from the darkness, you can see and hear creation slowly awakening all around you. Some people make it a point to watch the sun come up on each birthday they celebrate, signifying the beginning of a new year of life.
Even when we’re not witnessing the change firsthand, the idea of morning can be so life-giving that it’s impossible to deny our wiring for that kind of hope. Morning is the new start we can look forward to, no matter how we’re feeling when our head hits the pillow at night. If today somehow went south—maybe we wish we’d made a different decision or could take back that thing we said or been less anxious or more productive—we know tomorrow brings the chance to do things differently. Tomorrow brings the possibility of seeing life in a new light. What feels hopeless tonight can be transformed by morning, but only if we’re willing to let go of it. When we surrender our disappointments and wish-we-could-do-overs to our heavenly Father, we make room for Him to do something new.
In the Bible, the Hebrew word boqer is the most commonly used word for “morning,” describing “the breaking forth of the dawn” and, more poetically, “bright joy after a night of distress.” It’s a rhythm we find throughout God’s Word and in our own lives. The dark times often precede the most beautiful revelations. The psalmist reminds us that, “Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning” (Psalm 30:5 NKJV). Joy is possible from the moment we open our eyes, even before anything is resolved or new plans are made. The next time we wake up and feel yesterday’s clouds threatening to roll in, we can remember the One whose mercies are new every morning, the One who has never left our side. We can step into a new day with an awareness of His presence and a sense of hope and assurance. As the hymn “Great Is Thy Faithfulness” reminds us:
Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth,
Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide;
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,
Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!
Our Maker is always at work bringing His light into our lives, offering us renewal and the chance to start again. Whether it’s those daily “try-again” moments or ones of lasting transformation, we can be sure that good things are ahead.
Lord, whatever this day brings, I know that it is not mine to carry into tomorrow. Every day You give us is a chance to start again, and I never want to take that for granted. When I lay my head on my pillow tonight, help me remember that You are here with me, willing to take away my burdens and prepare me for a new beginning. Help me to lay it all in Your hands—my doubts and disappointments, fears and failures. And when I wake up, remind me of Your mercies that are new every morning. Thank You for being a faithful, grace-filled God. Thank You for the beautiful rhythm of Your creation, for always bringing light from darkness, drawing our hearts toward hope and renewal and giving us glimpses of Your radiant love. Amen.
