God’s DNA

When God created human beings, he made them to be like himself. Genesis 5:1 NLT
Have you ever looked at your children and wondered how in the world those very different individuals came from the same two people? It’s truly an outright miracle that every child God places on this earth is a unique reflection of their parents. Children inherit things such as looks, personalities, and temperaments from their parents. They also learn things—habits, behaviors, and skills. Siblings share their parents’ DNA, yet no two are alike.
The same is true for us as God’s children. God handpicked and handcrafted the person you are. Every detail of you was thoughtfully and lovingly planned. Even the things you see as weaknesses were purposed for His glory. In His incredible love, God meets you where you need Him so that you can be the best version of you.
When God made us like Himself, He gave us characteristics and qualities that we share with Him. We can also learn to be more like God as we grow closer to his Son. Think of the disciples and how they grew over the course of three years by hanging around with Jesus. Peter was a small-town fisherman in the beginning. After walking with Jesus, Peter became a leader who spoke with authority (Acts 2:14-36). In other words, walking with the Lord will shape you more and more into God’s likeness. He permits the irritants and refining moments of your life because He can use them to mature you. As you allow Him to use your circumstances, His plan for you takes shape (Romans 8:28-29). Think about that: God has a perfect, specific, and intentional purpose just for you. As you choose to follow Him, you will look more and more like His Son until the day you stand in His presence.
God has welcomed you into his beautiful legacy of parenting: as His beloved child and as a loving mother.
