Every Step of the Journey

God doesn’t come and go. God lasts. He’s Creator of all you can see or imagine. He doesn’t get tired out, doesn’t pause to catch His breath. And He knows everything, inside and out. He energizes those who get tired. ISAIAH 40:27–29 THE MESSAGE

Some weeks weary us. According-to-plan is rolled over by unpredictable events, news we weren’t prepared to hear, and interruptions that put us further behind. By Friday we’re tired from body to soul. Contrary to what we want to do when we’ve fallen behind on our lists, which is to hurry up and work harder, what we really need to do is rest and wait. We need to rest our tired bodies and wait for God to energize our souls.

Our energy doesn’t increase by penning a line through a list item. We feel a sense of relief, but we forego the rest we need. God knows us inside and out, and He knows the ins and outs of every situation along life’s journey. We can make our plans, but we have to be flexible enough to let Him direct our steps. We can’t see the whole picture. We can’t see what’s coming or how everything will turn out. We trust God, wait, and step forward in peace. If questions or confusion remain, standing still and waiting longer is always the answer.

God’s stop signs aren’t for testing patience as much as they are for building trust. The more trusting we are, the more peaceful we’ll be no matter how much stopping and waiting is required. All the pauses, stops, delays, redirects, and turnarounds we experience are initiated by God’s perfect love. Each one keeps our feet on the path of our purpose. Many help us avoid slipping, falling, or failing.

God takes every step of our life’s journey alongside us, regardless of the terrain changes. The mountains may be steep, the valleys wide, and the deserts seemingly endless, but God isn’t going anywhere. His love for us has an eternal hold.

Dear God, When life has me feeling weary and tired, lead my heart to You. Give me rest, recovery, and renewed energy by the power of Your love.
