Sarah’s story is woven throughout Genesis 17-21. She was Abraham’s wife, and God promised she would give birth to a son, but it took time for this promise to come to pass. Sarah trusted God even in the face of disappointment and what seemed impossible. She chose to laugh in the face of the trial and to remain faithful even when it probably felt at times as if she had been forgotten. Genesis 21:1 says, “The Lord kept His word and did for Sarah EXACTLY what He promised.” Verse 6 says, “And Sarah declared, “God has brought me laughter. All who hear about this will laugh with me. Who would have said to Abraham that Sarah would nurse a baby? Yet I have given Abraham a son in His old age!” She hoped in the joys to come rather than dwelling in doubt.
