“Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?” Matthew 6:27
If you have more than one child, you’ve probably noticed many differences between them. One enjoys fruit while the other prefers vegetables. Maybe one finds the good in situations while the other tends to worry. Or one always wears sweaters while the other always wears shorts. The great news is that whether we prefer carrots or oranges, wear flip-flops or rain boots, see a glass half-full or half-empty—God loves us just the same and yet he loves us uniquely too. He wants us to live a rich and satisfying life (John 10:10). And the distinctiveness of the people in our inner circle certainly does add zest and enjoyment!
Worry is a life-stealer, a fun-thief. God tells us not to worry because nothing good comes from it. All the good comes from living in the expectation that our amazing God will be his amazing self. Not worrying can be difficult when we see the potential for harm. From teaching your young child to look both ways at every street to watching your newly licensed teenager leave the driveway alone for the first time, there are literally hundreds of things that could go wrong. God knows what raises your blood pressure. He also knows the beautiful plan he has laid out for each child. He will guide your children’s steps as they go forward in life. He is not worried—and you needn’t be either.
When you are prone to worry, ask God, “How should I view this situation?” He will always have an answer.
