Daily devotion

“I tell you the truth, of all who have ever lived, none is greater than John the Baptist. Yet even the least person in the Kingdom of Heaven is greater than he is!” Matthew 11:11
You are a vital character in the chapter that God has been writing since long before anyone else even knew about you. You may not feel important. You may look around at the cluttered living room, the forgetful children, the outdated car, and the still-broken relationship and think of yourself as playing a subpar role in God’s story. But it doesn’t work that way. God gave you eyes to see, a heart to filter what you see, and a mind to process truth. The externals are secondary to the internal workings of your character. God has chosen you for this chapter of his story. He has written love and purpose into your heart. When you meet him one day, he won’t ask about the last time you vacuumed or why you couldn’t fix everything. He will ask if you tried your hardest to love him well and to show his love to others.
Do you know how strong he has made you? Do you realize what you’re truly capable of? Most people probably don’t know until they find themselves stretched to the limit. A mother experiences this as she gives birth. At the point of no return, her will and spirit rise up and surprise even her! “It is not by force nor by strength, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies” (Zechariah 4:6). Those who believe in Jesus have the same power within them that raised him from the dead (Ephesians 1:19-20). When Jesus says that anything is possible for those who believe (Mark 9:23), we can trust that he knows what he’s talking about.
You are a vital character in God’s story, and he will give you the strength you need.
