“Take off your sandals, for you are standing on holy ground.”

Exodus 3:5

There are moments in life that we consider sacred. Sacred moments happen when you sense God’s presence, and he connects with your heart. We may identify these moments differently, but certain times inspire a sense of awe and solemnity. The world seems to slow down—or perhaps time slows for us as the world moves on and we don’t notice or care. Think of holding your newborn on your chest. Or watching your children laugh and play in the sprinkler on a sunny summer day. Sacred moments create longing. They become core memories of powerful times of transition. Sacred may not be a common word in your vocabulary, but surely you know the feeling.

Sacred moments give us the gift of closeness with God. When you are aware of God’s presence and power in that moment, you are giving God room to speak right to you. If Moses had not stopped at the burning bush, he would not have known what God had in store for him and an entire nation of chosen people (Exodus 3:1-22).

Gratitude for these sacred moments opens the door of your heart and allows God to share his heart with you. When you find yourself feeling the sacredness of it all, pause, recognize the significance of the moment (“take off your sandals”), and invite the Lord to speak to you. He wants to share with you.

God invites you into sacred moments with him to give you the peace you need.
