Daily devotion

You’ve all been to the stadium and seen the athletes race. Everyone runs; one wins. Run to win. I CORINTHIANS 9:24 THE MESSAGE
When Diana Nyad decided to swim from Cuba to Florida—as a woman in her sixties!—many doubted that the goal was achievable. And for the first several attempts, it was not. But in 2013 Nyad completed the 110-mile journey through sometimes treacherous waters. Nyad never doubted that her goal was achievable.
The kinds of goals you want to be setting are ones that are achievable. If you rush into this goal-setting like a bull in a china shop, you might commit to goals that aren’t likely achievable: performing on the piano at Carnegie Hall, playing quarterback at the next Super Bowl, or becoming a billionaire before you turn fifty. While I commend you on your ambition, these aren’t goals that are likely to be achievable.
Achievable goals are more like: taking piano lessons or joining a coed touch football league or deciding to set aside two hundred dollars a month into a savings account. Achievable goals are those at which you are likely to succeed! I think that dreaming big is commendable, but if you don’t identify a goal that’s achievable, you’ll only end up feeling frustrated.
Look back at the three measurable goals you listed in the last devotion.
Of the remaining two, identify the one that is most achievable, and go for it! Spend time reflecting on how you’ll succeed at this goal. Be specific.
Lord, thanks for joining me on this journey. And thank You for opening my eyes to see where You’re leading me. Amen.
