My soul longed and even yearned for the courtyards of the Lord; my heart and my flesh sing for joy to the living God. PSALM 84:2 NASB

The writer of Psalm 84 describes what it is to live with a passion for God, saying, “my heart and my flesh sing for joy to the living God.” And I’m wondering if you’ve had that experience before—of your heart and flesh singing? It may be that you’ve had that experience in a holy encounter with God. But we can be passionate about other things as well. And that passion that we have? It has to do with how we’re uniquely designed by God.

For example, I love music. And if I hear a song with a great drumbeat, like Superstition by Stevie Wonder. Well, it’s all over. I am passionate about that song. It makes my heart and flesh sing. That kind of passion is what sets your soul on fire.

So, what is it for you? And don’t limit your imagination. My mom was passionate about beautiful sunsets. Someone else is passionate about the exact ratio of oils and seasoning to make the world’s best popcorn. One woman is passionate about seeking justice for the oppressed. And someone else’s heart and flesh sing when they get to dance salsa!

The fact that God gave each of us distinct passions tells me that those passions are integral when it comes to creating a life you love. What makes your heart and flesh sing?

This is a fun one! Make a list of everything that brings you great joyGo big or go home. Ask God to remind you of all the things about which you’re passionate.

God, I am choosing to own the unique passions that You have given me. And when my heart and flesh sing, I will give praise to You! Amen.
