Daily devotion

For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, for which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. EPHESIANS 2:10 KJV
We’ll open this devotion with a narrative that demonstrates the power of embracing change: Sarah was having lunch with her coworker, Kiki, when she shared that she was disappointed with where she was in life. Sarah explained, “I just didn’t think I’d be sitting at the same desk in the same cubicle a decade after I started at the company.” Kiki had been hearing for months how dissatisfied Sarah was at work. Carefully, Kiki ventured, “You know you can do something about it, right?”
The look of surprise on Sarah’s face signaled to Kiki that maybe Sarah didn’t know that she didn’t have to be stuck forever. Kiki continued, “You could talk to your manager about how you might get to the next level. You could take some continuing ed classes to build your skills. You could even polish your résumé and look for something you’d enjoy more.”
Beloved, did you know that God created you for good works? That means that you were made to participate in God’s good plan for the world and for you. I want you to hear clearly that you have the freedom to embrace change. If you feel stuck in your life—the way Sarah felt stuck in her job—you can make the choice today to change your circumstances.
As you consider the possibility of making changes to the life you’re living today, how does that feel? Would you say you’re hesitant or are you all in? Talk to God about it.
Faithful and loving God, I believe You created me for good things. Give me the courage to discern what I can do, and should do, to participate in that goodness. Amen.
