How blessed is God! And what a blessing He is!... Long before He laid down earth’s foundations, He had us in mind, had settled on us as the focus of His love. EPHESIANS 1:3-4 THE MESSAGE

We all have things that distract us from what we should be doing. When I have a deadline to meet, I start baking. I try a cookie recipe I haven’t tried before, or I throw together a batch of my favorite chocolate cupcakes. I read about authors who have quiet, secluded places to go when they have a book to finish and I wish I was one of them! I sometimes wonder why God has called me to do what I do because my attention span doesn’t lend itself to the successful completion of projects or books. The fact that you’re reading this right now is no small miracle. But God has never been one to shy away from employing the underqualified, and for that I’m profoundly grateful.

Thankfully, God doesn’t have trouble focusing on the most important things. And it’s both humbling and exciting that we have always been His most important thing. We were the focus of His love before the foundations of the earth were laid. That’s forever stuff. There hasn’t been a moment in time or before time existed that we haven’t been extravagantly loved. How can we have bad days in light of that truth? I scroll through my social media feeds and see face after face and think the only thing that any of us truly want is to be loved. We want to be known and seen, through and through. Not in a superficial way, but in a real, deep-down way. God loves us like that. He likes us too, and if He could like every picture we post He would. He wants us to know we are known. We are seen. We are loved more than we can fully understand.

When He made us, fearfully and wonderfully so, He was completely in love. He knew we were going to be here long before we arrived, and when we did His eyes lit up with joy. You’re the focus of His love today. He sees and knows every need, fear, insecurity, and hope—and because you’re His most important thing, you have His full attention.

Father, I’m whole in Your perfect love and thankful for it every day.
