I’m so thankful for the first responders in our communities—those men and women who have such a heart for others that they’ve trained to be able to administer help in someone’s hour of need.

By virtue of our relationship with Christ, we have been spiritually equipped as first responders in others’ times of need. Not only do we have the heart for it thanks to Jesus’s sacrifice for us, but we have His Spirit, the divine Helper, prompting us toward the needs that surround us and training us to come alongside those who are weak, grieving, hurt, or afraid.

Others may walk on by the need right in front of them, but we won’t. God has readied us for service. We’re in position to lend a hand—and to do so without thinking twice—all because we have been sent out by Christ Himself.

If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. JAMES 2:15–17 ESV

Jesus, You’ve been my rescue in every time of need. Equip me today to see the needs around me and to be quick to respond to them.
