The Power of Fear, The Power of Jesus

Below is an excerpt from 100 Days of Faith Over Fear written by Lisa Stilwell. This book was carefully crafted with you in mind – to bring you hope and life-changing encouragement in the face of fear.

Fear has the power to make us do all sorts of things we wouldn’t normally do and to act out in ways that surprise even ourselves. Such as lash out in anger when we are usually calm. Or lie about something when we have a history of integrity. Or run from problems when we’re known to persevere through them.

Jesus also has the power to make us do all sorts of things we wouldn’t normally do. Such as hold our tongue when someone’s attacking us. Possess peace and calm in seemingly hopeless situations. And respond to someone who’s acting out in fear with love, mercy, and forgiveness.

Let’s make a difference and choose the power of Jesus today to help those who are living in fear to know Him in a whole new way. Let’s cover the power of fear with the power of Jesus.

“Which of these three do you think proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?” [Jesus asked.] “The one who showed mercy to him,” he said. Then Jesus told him, “Go and do the same.” (Luke 10:26-27)

Mercy triumphs over judgment. (James 2:13)

God had mercy on me so that Christ Jesus could use me as an example to show everyone how patient He is with even the worst sinners, so that others will realize that they, too, can have everlasting life. (1 Timothy 1:16 TLB)

Now you have every grace and blessing; every spiritual gift and power for doing His will are yours during this time of waiting for the return of our Lord Jesus Christ. (1 Corinthians 1:7 TLB)

Lord,

Stop me the next time I start to judge someone because their actions are brow-raising. Give me the eyes to see what they’re really struggling with and the heart to respond with mercy and understanding. Goodness knows You’ve given me the same response at times; now help me to do the same for others.

Amen.
