Bless Your Friends This Christmas Season

During the Christmas season, you have the unique opportunity to share God’s love with your friends – an opportunity that may not so readily present itself during a different time of year. So, why not reach out to your friends, encourage them, and remind that that they’re loved and cherished? Read the Scriptures and tips below, and come up with a plan for how to bless your friends this Christmas!

Remind them that they’re cherished.

Perfume and incense bring joy to the heart, and the pleasantness of a friend springs from their heartfelt advice. Do not forsake your friend or your family.” – Proverbs 27:9 NIV

Each friendship brings new and unique blessings into our lives. Let’s use this Christmas season to let our friends know that they are fearfully and wonderfully made and have great things to offer the world. Accept them wherever they are.

Therefore accept one another, just as Christ also accepted you, to the glory of God.” – Romans 15:7 CSB

Try something perhaps a little bit out of the ordinary this season, and host a “Come as You Are Christmas Party” with your friends! Pick a time that works for everyone, whether it be right after work, Saturday afternoon, or an evening where everyone can find a babysitter, and just spend time together. No frills, no dressing up, no prep work ahead of time – just show up as you are and fellowship with your friends, basking in the wonderful season that’s upon you. Before they leave, gift everyone with a thoughtful card written just for them and a small gift as a token of your friendship and time together.

Encourage them always.

”Therefore encourage one another and build each other up as you are already doing.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:11 CSB

The Lord calls us to love and encourage one another because He has first loved us. One of the simplest ways to give encouragement to your friends is by sending them a sweet, Scripture-filled card to remind them of what they mean to you. Pray over the card, and ask the Lord to bless your friend and encourage her where she is right now in her walk of life. You’ll be blown away how impactful such a small gesture can be to those around you!

Give them grace, as Christ does for you.

“But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”2 Corinthians 12:9 ESV

It’s a busy season for everyone, and no matter how hard we try to plan ahead, things come up, we get distracted, and things may slip through the cracks. Don’t be hard on yourself, and don’t be hard on your friends during this season. Cherish them, encourage them, and give them grace. If you notice that a friend is struggling to keep up, surprise her with some homemade goodies on a special Christmas plate to share with her family, and remind her that she is doing a fantastic job and the Lord is with her always. The importance of this season can sometimes be forgotten in all the craziness, so take the time to remind yourself, and others, of this often.

When we are intentional with our time and our friendships, God can do amazing things, especially during the miraculous Christmas season. Let’s remember that this year and start off the season prepared to show our loved ones that we are thinking of them, loving them, and encouraging them always.
