For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs. 1 TIMOTHY 6:10

There are so many ways to fill our days. We might fill them with work and family and giving of our time to serve others . . . or something else. Why do we do what we do each day?

That’s definitely a huge, loaded, and deep question, so let’s take a few minutes to think about it. Okay, maybe some of us came back with several reasons, and that’s great too! Were any of those reasons for the love of money?

We all need money to live. We need to pay rent or a mortgage, we need to eat, we need clothing, so we have to obtain money somehow. It’s when we let the love of money overshadow our focus for what we’re called to do that things can get out of whack.

We’re reminded in Matthew 6:24: “No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.”

When we focus too much on money, our fear of not having enough makes it difficult to see the whole picture as we are making a decision. It also overshadows what God does for us. He loves us and provides for all of creation faithfully. We are precious to Him. We can trust Him to meet our needs too.

GO FOR IT!

It’s a beautiful thing to love what you do each day, and we all should! We have to do a self-check every once in a while and ask ourselves if we are doing it for the love of our paycheck, or to serve God. Let’s use our talents, gifts, and purpose for Him.
