It seems the world is moving faster every day (how is that possible?). Do you feel it? That momentum, nudging you along, saying, “Hurry! Click here! Go there! Decide now! Don’t be left behind!” We can’t avoid the river that rushes around us, but we can do our best to navigate it the way Jesus would—peacefully and prayerfully.

Unloving actions and poor decisions often happen in hurried moments, and when we’re caught up in the hustle, those moments are plentiful. The enemy of our souls seeks a foothold in confusion and chaos, but the Lover of our souls seeks to slow us down and speak to our hearts. Those fleeting thoughts like Should I really be doing this? or I need to stop and pray about that . . . are there for a reason. The more often we pause intentionally, the more headspace and heart space we have to hear from our Father, who is never in a rush.

He’s given us everything we need to walk in quiet confidence amid the world’s stampede of busyness. Most importantly, He’s provided the “still, small voice” that’s always there to guide us when we turn our hearts toward Him.

And they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day. —Genesis 3:8 KJV

Therefore, to one who knows the right thing to do and does not do it, to him it is sin. —James 4:17 NASB

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—His good, pleasing and perfect will. —Romans 12:2 NIV
