So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith. GALATIANS 6:10 ESV

As a designer, she knew how to listen well and work to find floor plans and design schemes to suit each client’s needs. She enjoyed her work and found it fulfilling to create aesthetically pleasing places for the families she served.

But when she and her husband bought a new house for their growing family, her attention to detail took on a whole new dynamic. Keeping up with current styles and trends fell secondary to securing cozy and comfortable living areas that invited community and conversation. Knowing the needs and personalities of each of her family members, she kept them at the forefront of her mind as she picked out paint colors, indoor and outdoor seating, and soothing lighting options. When she was finished, the whole family instantly felt right at home, finding everything they needed right at their fingertips. Her efforts transformed the new house into a functional space of warmth, light, and love.

As Christians, we know that we are called to reach out to our communities with the hope and love of Christ. Together, we are on a mission to build Christ’s kingdom, and we have endless opportunities for service. But our Savior reminds us that home matters too…our household with family members and our household of faith with fellow believers. If we’re not careful, in our zeal to build the kingdom, we can neglect those closest to us.

But it’s our faith family who will live with us forever in heaven. And it’s our unity and love, Jesus says, that will let the lost know what life in Jesus looks like. If we want to win the world to Jesus, we must start at home, loving our family well at home and at church. Don’t let separation or neglect creep in while you’re busy with daily life. Instead, ask God to help you show even deeper levels of kindness to those closest to you.

Jesus, please help me to keep my focus on You and follow Your lead. Fill me with ways to show kindness and love to everyone so that the world can see You more clearly. In Jesus’s name.
