When in a Valley

Anytime we go through a valley of problems and don’t see a way out, it’s only natural to ask God to change the circumstances. Of course, we don’t want to struggle with upheaval and discomforting, painful trials, especially when they drag out over time. But as faithful and loving as God is, He doesn’t promise to change our surroundings – He promises to help us through them. His Word says He will lead us and satisfy us in a parched land, and that means He will. Sometimes God allows a deep and rugged path to increase our dependence on Him and grow our faith. Other times hardship must occur for His wonder to shine through. It’s during these times we must remember that His ways are not our ways, but we can always trust them to be what’s best for us and for His glory.

The Lord will always lead you, satisfy you in a parched land, and strengthen your bones. You will be like a watered garden and like a spring whose water never runs dry. (Isaiah 58:11)

For as the sky soars high above the earth, so the way I work surpasses the way you work, and the way I think is beyond the way you think… So will the words that come out of My mouth not come back empty-handed. They’ll do the work I sent them to do, they’ll complete the assignment I gave them. (Isaiah 55:9-11 MSG)

When I am afraid, I will trust in You. In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I will not be afraid. (Psalm 56:3-4

Lord, sometimes I don’t understand the circumstances and wonder where You are. Help me to hold on to hope. Help me to hold Your Words of truth and love close to my heart. Help me never to stop believing that You are with me, working Your good, even when my eyes can’t see.
