What Matters Most

Don’t you know by now that the everlasting God, the Creator of the farthest parts of the earth, never grows faint or weary? ISAIAH 40:28 TLB

There’s a sense of time standing still in the mountains. Silence settles in, and the rock faces stand formidable against the fragility of our small frames. It’s breathtaking, grounding, and humbling. It helps us understand more clearly the awesome splendor of God and the amazing truth that He loves us with a love that seeps in to every detail of our lives.

God’s love towers above every mountain on earth and reaches beyond the depth of every ocean. It’s a love as unstoppable as the sunrise and as sure as the sunset that follows. We’re a tiny part of an infinite universe, and our lives are infinitely valued by the One who created us. It’s hard to wrap our minds around that kind of love, and it can be even harder to believe it on the days we don’t feel lovable at all.

We lose our patience, ride every emotion, ignore God’s direction, and forge ahead without seeking His wisdom. We keep going until we’re exhausted or feeling defeated by the inevitable consequences of quick, unguided decisions. And there, in that dismal place, we’re still surrounded by God’s monumental love. He is graciously ready to pick us up and put us back on our feet.

God is never going to grow weary of us. He’s not going to get tired of loving us or caring about everything in our lives. We might think we don’t need to bother Him with every little thing that comes up, but He’d love for us to get into the habit of doing it—because it all matters to Him. What matters most to Him is the condition of our heart, the place within us He wants securely trusting in Him. Because He never grows faint or weary, we can stand in faith knowing He’ll always give us the strength and courage we need, from a heart of boundless love.

Dear God, I’m in awe of Your absolute love for me and humbled by Your attention to the smallest detail of my life. My heart trusts in You alone.
