(Un)Tangled Thoughts

Whether you’re a seasoned overthinker or just an occasional worrier, it’s likely you’ve had that overwhelming “What is happening in my life right now and what am I going to do?” feeling at some point. It may be the perfect storm of circumstances, a rocky relationship, or just a day that felt “off.” Regardless, when we start down an anxious path, it’s difficult to make a U-turn. Thoughts can feel like a jumbled ball of yarn, and we wonder where to even start untangling that mess. What can we do? Well, we can remind ourselves that what looks like chaos to us makes perfect sense to God. Our apparent tangle of a day is part of a bigger picture that we can’t see yet in entirety. It’s not our job to figure it all out (phew!), but we can put it all into His hands and trust Him for the next step. It doesn’t have to be some epic leap from confusion to clarity. It can simply be a walk to clear our heads, some deep breaths, or a few minutes of prayer set aside to recenter ourselves in Christ. Letting go of what we can’t control can be so freeing, but it often takes divine hands to pry our fingers off. The next time thoughts overwhelm us, let’s try to imagine everything falling into those hands and just take one simple, prayerful step at a time.

For God is not a God of confusion but of peace. —I Corinthians 14:33 ESV

Test everything; hold fast what is good. —I Thessalonians 5:21 ESV

[Cast] all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. —I Peter 5:7 NKJV
