The Road to Freedom

Have you ever been in a darkness so thick you could physically feel the weight of it? You desperately wanted to be free of the darkness, but you couldn’t seem to shake it loose.

This is such a heavy place to be. Sometimes we find ourselves in the darkness through no fault of our own. It could be that we are grieving the loss of a loved one or are in physical pain.

But oftentimes we live in darkness due to a sin that we have allowed to come into our lives, such as addiction, lust, pride, or even laziness. As we fall deeper and deeper into the trap, we begin to feel the chains bind us and we are helpless to escape.

Yet God never intended for us to live this way, so He provided a way out when He sent His Son, Jesus, to die for our sins. When we accept Jesus’ free gift of salvation, His light is put inside us and it is the catalyst to our freedom.

Psalm 107:14 (TPT) says,

His light broke through the darkness and He led us out in freedom from death’s dark shadow and snapped every one of our chains.

When His light enters, darkness has no choice but to flee. Walking in the light is not a cakewalk, but it is the road to freedom. It takes intentionality and faith. Yet as we take a step toward it, then another, and then another, we feel those chains start to snap, and before we know it, we are running full steam ahead in complete freedom. That is how the light breaks through the darkness.

God, sometimes the darkness is so think we can’t see the road to freedom. We need Your light to come into our situation and help us. We’re so sorry to have disappointed You in any way. Help us to trust You with everything. Give us the faith to walk in the light. Snap our chains, Lord!
