The Right Focus

Fix your attention on God. You'll be changed from the inside out. ROMANS 12:2 THE MESSAGE

Simplifying where we focus our attention can prove to be anything but simple. Especially at a time when we go through our days tethered to a phone, which is essentially a computer connecting us to the entire world. That’s a lot of temptation for us to fix our attention on the wrong things. We look down and lose track of time. Before we know it we’ve seen too much bad news and read too many negative comments.

God is always the right focus of our attention. We get the proper perspective in a hurry because love is influencing how we see things. We see the person in front of us, not as someone testing our patience, but as someone needing a dose of unfailing love. We see the challenge we face, not as a threat, but as an opportunity to grow our faith. We see the fear, not as a force we can’t overcome, but as a reason to lean into the strength, hope, and comfort sustaining us.

God is about the heart changes that lead us to our higher place. “From the ends of the earth I call to You, I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I” (Psalm 61:2 NIV). God’s focus is on us every moment of our lives. He designed us in perfect and purposeful detail. He uses every single thing in our lives to move us closer to Him if we choose to see it. The distractions are all ours. His love is focused entirely on us.

Let’s choose to respond to the longing God has for us to look to Him for everything we need. We’re going to see Him come through mightily—with more than enough.

Dear God, I’ll fix my focus on You today and see every moment as a gift You’ll use to make my heart more like Yours.
