The Power of Blessing

People were bringing little children to him in order that he might touch them, but the disciples rebuked them. When Jesus saw it, he was indignant and said to them, “Let the little children come to me. Don’t stop them, because the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly I tell you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” After taking them in his arms, he laid his hands on them and blessed them. Mark 10:13–16 CSB

God loves to bless the lives of children, and parents have the awesome privilege of extending the blessing of God to each child. Your words speak the blessing of God, your hands impart the blessing of God, and your heart expresses the blessing of God. As you ask God to bless your children, you are asking for His best, His highest, and His greatest good for their lives.

Children grow and thrive under the blessing of God. As you bless your children, they will hear words of hope, encouragement, and support. Prayers of blessing will build them up rather than beat them down; heal them rather than hurt them; strengthen them rather than weaken them; and help them follow the good God has for their lives rather than lead them astray.

The next few days we will learn more about praying blessings over your children to help them find meaning, strength and to the voice of their Savior. Today, prepare your heart for these blessings with this short prayer:

Lord, give me a willing heart, ready to bless others in every moment. Give me opportunities to share You and to build others up using the gifts You have given me. Let my life be a testimony of Your bountiful grace and love.

He laid his hands on them and blessed them. Mark 10:16 CSB
