The Look of Love

The Lord appeared to us in the past saing: “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.” (Jeremiah 31: 3 NIV)

It’s the moment you’ve been waiting for, and you’re not willing for a single disruption to interrupt its impact. From the very first time they met, you knew this man and woman were made for each other. And as the story unfolded, you witnessed countless diversions and distractions that kept from their divine destiny together. When will they see the secret love we’ve understood all along? We wonder. And wait.

And when it comes, our hearts explode in unexplained joy. It’s just a movie, we remind ourselves, embarrassed a little by our unrestrained emotion. How can just a look of love – a first embrace – stir our souls so strongly?

By the warmth of such soul connection, our walls of self-protection crumble. For a moment, we feel our vulnerability, the hint of hidden hope peeking through the rubble. Will we ever be loved that way?  we dare to wonder.

Better than the best romance story ever told, we have a date with destiny – love's full expression still unfolding. In the waiting, though, we don’t have to wonder. Jesus, our betrothed groom, has been preparing our miracle moment to be unveiled in face-to-face union with Him in heaven. We don’t have to wander around this life wondering whether we’ll ever be loved or chosen or whisked away to some wonderful place with our beloved. We will! Our hope has no need for fortress walls. Be bold, bride of Christ, and let God’s love free you to revel in His divine pursuit and eternal affection for you.

Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. (I John 4:8 NIV)
