The Comfort of Protection

This I declare about the LORD: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him... He will cover you with His feathers. He will shelter you with His wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection.

Psalm 91:2,4 NLT

It's important for children to feel safe and secure. Many things can cause them to become frightened and insecure-- a dark room, a loud noise, unfamiliar surroundings, a strange face, a thunderstorm. The need to be sheltered, protected, and cared for remains with us throughout life.

When the disciples were with Jesus on a stormy sea, they became fearful and came to Him for help (He was asleep on the boat at the time). It took Jesus but a moment to quiet the storm and calm their fears. They needed reassurance that they were in the presence of the one who cared about them and could protect them from any storm.

Through prayer, you can ask that each day those in your circle of influence will be reassured of God's presence, His watch, His care, His hand of covering, and His ever-present help in every time of need. The next few days we will learn more about praying for protection and comfort to help others find favor, discover the care God has for them, and continue on the path of holiness. Today, prepare your heart for these blessings with this short prayer:

Lord, you are our good Father. Your heart for us is caring, kind, gracious, and protective. You desire that we live in such a way that pleases You and glorifies Your name, and allows us to be who You created us to be – shining lights of Your love in this world.

Strengthen our faith and give us opportunities to build our trust in You. Assure us of Your goodness and might in each trial, joy and every moment in between.

He is my God, and I trust Him. Psalm 91:2 NLT
