The Blood of Access

"Dear brothers and sisters, we can boldly enter heaven’s Most Holy Place because of the blood of Jesus. By His death, Jesus opened a new and life-giving way through the curtain into the Most Holy Place.  Hebrews 10:19-20 NLT

Access means entrance. We use a password to gain entrance to an iPad, or a key to enter a house. People need a way of access to enter special events or places. To gain entrance to a concert requires a ticket, and entrance to a private dinner party requires an invitation.

In the beginning, the greatest blessing and joy of life was the intimate communion and daily fellowship Adam and Eve had with God in their garden home. The greatest day of sadness and darkness for the human race came as a result of their disobedience to God. Their sin caused a separation between them and God.

How could this problem of separation be solved? How could sinful people gain back access into fellowship and communion with a Holy God? It was impossible! God was the only one who could provide the way to bring us back to Himself. He provided it through love—by His grace, by His mercy, and by the blood of atonement.

When Jesus took His last breath upon the cross, something quite amazing and supernatural happened at the temple. In the book of Mark we read, “And Jesus cried out with a loud voice, and breathed His last. Then the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. Mark 15:37-38 NKJV

The temple veil separated the sinner and prevented access into the holy and glorious presence of God. According to God’s law to Israel, it was only once a year that the high priest, who represented all of Israel, could enter past the veil into the Holy of Holies and place the shed blood of a lamb upon the mercy seat on behalf of the people. (Hebrews 9-10). No one else, at any other time, could enter.

When Jesus died, no human tore the veil from top to bottom, it was God. It was torn because Jesus’ blood now provided access into God’s presence. Jesus’ offering of Himself ended forever the need for another blood sacrifice. The work of our redemption was finished. Unhindered union and reconciliation with God were forever restored.

Today, does God seem inaccessible? He is not. Does His help seem unreachable? It is not. Does His favor and blessing seem unimaginable? They are not….The blood of Jesus has been shed; the veil has been torn; the invitation has been given; grace and mercy are extended; the way has been opened for you to come.

Hear His heart say, “Come to Me”

When you are hurting, come to Me and I will bind your wound.

When you need to be assured, come to Me and I will give you My embrace.

When you can no longer go on, come to Me and I will carry you.

When you need comfort, come to Me and I will wipe your tears.

When you are afraid, come to Me and I will calm your spirit.

When you are lonely, come to Me and I will be closer than a friend.

When you need to be refreshed, come to Me and I will anoint you with My oil.

When you are uncertain of My love, come to Me and I will speak My heart to you.

Because of the torn veil you can confidently come at any time, from any place, and with any need. The blood of Jesus has given you complete access into the Father’s presence. Prayer is yours, communion is yours, fellowship is yours, and help is yours.

“Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”  Hebrews 4:16 NKJV

Prayer

Father, thank You for making a way for me to come to You through the blood of Your Son. My prayer is one of praise as expressed in this chorus…

I've found a way, through the blood, past the veil

To the Holy of Holies with God…

There in the presence of Jesus I stand,

Glorified Son at the Father's right hand,

There I can plead, I can claim, I can have,

All that He purchased for me.
