Saturating Our Souls With Love

Thank God!... He uses us to spread the knowledge of Christ everywhere, like a sweet perfume. II CORINTHIANS 2:14 NLT

When we’ve been around a campfire, it’s hard to deny we were. The smell permeates our hair and everything we wear! It’s a smell associated with simple, good things. We think of time with family and friends, camping, relaxing, taking a break from the busyness of life, and a little window of time to do nothing. Making time for it can feel like everything to our weary souls.

When the light of God is in us, the things we do saturate the people around us with His love. They remember they’ve been in our presence because we’ve been in His. Love can become a beautiful habit. The more we understand how deeply God loves us, the more His life-changing love will beam from our lives, leaving light in our wake. A heart in love with God is reflected in acts of love for God.

It can sound like a simple thing to know how much God loves us. But too often we forget how perfectly we’re loved. Through all the mistakes we make and the mountains we face, God’s love never wavers. By putting our mistakes on replay or allowing the mountain to overcome us with fear, the love holding us loses its place. God’s love is our security. God’s love is our hope. Being sure of it is the only way to live our lives in the simplest way: love God most so we can love others best.

When the day starts, start reclaiming your thoughts. If the mental tape recorder reminds you of what went wrong yesterday, turn it off. Play this instead: “I’ve never quit loving you and never will. Expect love, love, and more love!” (Jeremiah 31:3 The Message). Absolutely nothing can make God stop loving you. It simply cannot happen! Keep knowing it. Keep believing it. Keep it so ingrained in your mind and heart that love becomes the only thing guiding your actions. It’s the best way to have the best days—and the only way to saturate the world with the sweet scent of God’s never-ending love.

Dear God, Your love for me is deeper, wider, and truer than I can fathom. Fill my mind and heart with reminders of it today so everyone around me feels it too.
