Refreshment for the Faint

I will refresh the weary and satisfy the faint. JEREMIAH 31:25 NIV

Worry can come with weariness. When we go too many days without prioritizing the time with God we need, we get run-down. Then we let stress, worry, and the weight of life run over our courage and hope. We can’t let that happen! God is at the ready to refresh us and renew our strength. He’s waiting for us to turn off the world and tune into His presence. Love will be there. Peace will be there. Wisdom will be there. Whatever we need will be there.

The wonderful thing about dedicated time with God is the way it slows time. What a gift. Most of our days are spent following routines planned out in increments of minutes and hours, and often we run out of them before we get everything done. The undone gets moved into the next twenty-four hours, and so on, and so on, until our days and weeks leave too little time for the alone with God time we need.

Quiet time breaks the cycle. It takes our eyes off the clock. And it’s surprising how little it takes to feel refreshed and revived. Maybe we’ve complicated how simple it can be to work God time into our days. It truly can be going into a room, shutting the door, closing our eyes, and taking a few deep breaths. It can be stepping outside and feeling immediately thankful for the fresh air. It can be putting the phone on silent and staring out the window for a few moments just to clear our thoughts.

Today is a good day to start making those minutes with God a priority. It’s going to take practice. It’s going to take persistence. But the gifts it holds are worth receiving. The moments we spare are moments we surrender to God’s loving care. His love wants what is best for us, and it’s what we need most. Take a little time to soak it in.

Dear God, I know being alone with You is the best way to savor the goodness You offer. Help me stay consistent in making time for the refreshment You give.
