Pausing for Proverbs: A Bountiful Eye

He who is generous will be blessed, for he gives some of his food to the poor. PROVERBS 22:9 AMP

Have you ever been in a situation where you could not make ends meet? You were living from paycheck to paycheck, and you knew that if anything went wrong, you would find yourself in terrible debt? And then it happened. The unthinkable. You had an accident, and you ended up with a bill that could not be fully paid. How would God take care of you now?

Then out of the blue, someone came in and helped you. The tears of joy fell like sweet rain, and you were never the same again. Something deep in your soul was stirred, and once you were on your feet again, you found a way to help others in the same way.

And so, the tender mercies rippled on. God loves it when we are generous with others. When we have offered food or finances or a cup of cool water, we have entered into what might be called a sacred space—a place where God finds delight.

How can we bless others today, and in so doing, bring joy to the heart of God?

Mighty God, I have been so awed by Your care for me. Sometimes You work these sweet miracles through Your followers, and I thank You for the many ways You bless us. May I always remember to care for others in the same way. Give me a bountiful eye! In Jesus’s powerful name, I pray. Amen.
