Learning to Fall

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. ROMANS 15:13

She was learning to trust with abandon. Every time she was faced with uncertainty, she was practicing throwing herself into God’s arms like a team-building trust fall activity. He caught her every time. Sometimes she missed in her aim and felt like she was free-falling for a bit in the wrong direction. But it never took Him long to rescue her, and they would set out together again.

When you finally get to the point of trusting God fully, life becomes so much more joyful. I’m not saying I’m there yet, but I’m learning. You’ve got to let your center of balance falter before He has a reason to catch you. And even though it can be scary, every time you make the effort to trust Him a little more, you’ll find that He is faithful. It makes it all that much easier to trust Him the next time, with something just a little bigger or more important to you. There won’t be a time in this life when you’ve ever arrived, having learned everything you can about God and how He operates. But you’ll grow. You’ll discover how much more fun it is when your hands are empty of the stiff controls and free to cup a flower so you can smell the sweet aromas along the path. Letting God lead has no downside. You’ll only become wiser and more peaceful when you learn just how trustworthy He is.

God, thank You for showing me that even in the midst of chaos, You are still God. When I’m impatient and try to force things, I’m reminded that You’re an on-time God and my trust is lacking. May I give You control and stop trying to do everything on my own. I give my day over to You. I know that You will do what’s best with what I leave in Your hands.

In Jesus’s name, Amen.
