How to Satisfy Your Craving for Connection
Loneliness is often a crippling feeling. We can fall into a rut and stay there, feeling sorry for ourselves and wondering how in the world we could ever get out of such a miserable pit.
But there is a way. Start by asking God to help you, then take the first step with His strength.
The first step could be as simple as sending a card to a friend. You never know what doors may open through a timely word of encouragement. Think about reaching out with a card that says, “The world’s a better place because of you,” or “A sweet friendship refreshes the soul.” Maybe the recipient will respond with a text or an email to thank you, and you’ll have what you’ve been looking for—connection.
Take advantage of that reciprocal action and invite your friend over for tea or coffee.
This mug says it well: “Two women met for coffee. When their mugs were empty, their hearts were full.” What could be sweeter?
If you’re looking for even deeper conversation, how about meeting with a friend to read through a book or devotional together? Holley Gerth’s books are a great option, or a devotional like Jesus Calling or Ann Voskamp’s One Thousand Gifts Devotional.
Discussing spiritual themes with someone else is a wonderful way to find connection and guard against loneliness.
If you’ve been feeling alone, pray for divine strength and take that first step toward the connection you crave.
