Heart Hunger

It’s a good thing to be hungry—hungry for God, that is. It’s good to want to know Him more and more, to want to experience His love, His power, His peace, His presence. It’s a good thing to be hungry for truth and goodness and justice, to desire to do what’s right ourselves and to see others do what’s right as well. This kind of heart hunger motivates us to take action and make changes—and make a difference. It inspires us to be part of the solution rather than the problem. It gives us perspective and helps us keep our priorities straight. But more than anything, allowing ourselves to be hungry—to feel the emptiness within—prepares us to receive the blessings that come when we are filled. God promises to meet our every need, to “feed” us and fill us with good things. Ultimately, we find our deepest satisfaction, our greatest fulfillment, in Him.

O God, You are my God; I earnestly search for You. My soul thirsts for You; my whole body longs for You in this parched and weary land where there is no water. Psalm 63:1 NLT

You open Your hand and satisfy the desires of every living thing. Psalm 145:16 NIV

That’s why I will speak of Your righteousness and sing praises to You all day long. Psalm 35:28 VOICE

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. Matthew 5:6 NIV

Lord, help me not to stuff myself with empty things but to feel the deep hunger that can only be satisfied by You
