He Knows Our Hearts

When we are convinced God thoroughly knows our hearts

and graciously accepts us as the children he dearly loves,

we can pursue intimacy with him instead of performance,

be honest about our deepest needs instead of hiding,

receive his favor and attention instead of being fearful,

and enjoy his remarkable love instead of feeling unworthy.

What is most important is who he is and all that he has done

to make it possible for us to know and experience his great love.

Our response to being known, accepted, and loved isn’t meant

to stop with us, but to flavor all our earthly relationships

with the grace, truth, and love we have come to know from him.

Today’s Reading: 1 John 4:9-12.

God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him. This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.

Dear friends, since God loved us that much, we surely ought to love each other. No one has ever seen God. But if we love each other, God lives in us, and his love is brought to full expression in us.
