Goodbye Winter, and Hello Spring.

The flowers are springing up, the season of singing birds has come, and the cooing of turtledoves fills the air. Song of Solomon 2:12 NLT

Spring is such an amazing time of year. It’s a time when billions upon billions of plants—everything from trees and bushes to flowers and even the tiniest little blades of grass—begin to cover the earth, bringing with it a sense of hope and renewal.

It’s even more amazing when we consider that it was only a week ago when we looked out our windows to see cold, bare tree branches, along with dead, yellowish grass, and a mixture of rocks and dirt. What a powerful transformation! So powerful, in fact, it’s hard not to notice the parallels between the coming of the new season and the renewal of one’s heart in Jesus as we say ‘goodbye winter, hello spring.’ In Revelation 21:5 NLT, it says “I am making everything new.”

As you begin to notice the signs of the coming season, check in with your soul. Do you feel removed or distant from God? Do you want a do-over? Have you lost sight of what is important in life, or do you need to renew your heart for Jesus?

If so, why not take the time this spring to enjoy the flowers, to thank God for His beautiful creation, and ask Him to renew your heart? Ask God to completely transform you so that you can live out His will for your life and shine His light for others to see.

Let’s take a moment to review what Scripture says about the change of seasons and the renewing of our hearts:

* Let us know; let us press on to know the Lord; his going out is sure as the dawn; he will come to us as the showers, as the spring rains that water the earth. Hosea 6:3 ESV

* Ask the Lord for rain in the springtime; it is the Lord who sends the thunderstorms. He gives showers of rain to all people, and plants of the field to everyone. Zechariah 10:1 NIV

* The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Psalm 19:1 NIV

* And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you - you of little faith? Matthew 6:28-30 NIV

When we look at seasons in the Bible, we are reminded that Jesus has the power to transform the earth—in a matter of weeks we will watch new life blossom from what now seems to be desolate and bleak. Spring renewal is one of the most beautiful gifts we are given each year.

In the Scriptures above, we also find that Jesus has the power to transform our hearts. He promises to shower us as the spring rains water the earth, provide for us with the work of His hands and care for us more than the flowers of the field. Why not take a moment this spring to breathe in these truths?

As we watch the powerful transformation on earth as winter melts into spring, let’s also ask God to transform our hearts so that we can grow closer and closer to the loving arms of our Almighty Father.
