Frame It Up

Sometimes parents reframe things for their children to help them feel better about a situation. For instance: Being lost in the car without GPS. (“What an adventure!”) Pet lizard wandered away. (“He’s probably living his best life.”) Dinner just burned. (“It’s . . . chargrilled!”) Looking for silver linings comes more naturally to some of us than others. There’s nothing wrong with being a realist (consider God’s prophets—there was no sugarcoating with them!). It’s important for us to take an honest look at life and show up for it, no matter how difficult the path becomes. But we can also look for the blessings and possibilities along the way. The Lord may allow circumstances that we don’t understand, but He’ll always give us ways to experience those circumstances with more peace and joy than we thought possible. Every day, we get to choose which lens we’ll be looking through. Will we settle for one interpretation of today’s events, or will we keep our hearts open to all the things God may be revealing to us—often in ways we least expect?

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. —Jeremiah 29:11 NKJV

Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost. —Romans 15:13 KJV

Many plans are in a man’s heart, but the counsel of the Lord will stand. —Proverbs 19:21 NASB

I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world. —John 16:33 ESV
