Forever Free

“And you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free” (John 8:32 NASB). What does freedom in Christ feel like? Living with less fear and more assurance (Isaiah 41:10). Less judgment and more love (Matthew 7:1). Less worry and more peace (Matthew 6:28). Less confusion and more clarity (I Corinthians 14:33). Less aimlessness and more purpose (Proverbs 3:5–6). Less complaining and more contentment (Philippians 4:11). Less “Will I ever be enough?” and more “He loves me just as I am” (I John 3:1)! The amount of freedom we feel from the things that used to weigh us down is a good gauge for the health of our spiritual lives. It’s helpful to check in from time to time with ourselves and with God about how we’re doing in that department. He not only desires to help us live in more and more freedom, but He offers us ways to do so—and the weapon of His Word to fight against anything that would try to trap us. Of course, none of us should expect perfect freedom in this life, but when old struggles and thought patterns appear, let’s remember that they no longer have the final say. When we accepted the finished work of Christ, that jail cell was opened, never to be closed again.

It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. (Galatians 5:1 NIV)

Wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. (II Corinthians 3:17 NLT)

Show me a sign of your favor, that those who hate me may see and be put to shame because you, LORD, have helped me and comforted me. (Psalm 86:17 ESV)

You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. (Galatians 5:13 NIV)
