Fear of the Future

If you’re like most people, the minute you start thinking about the future and upcoming needs, you begin to worry. Will you graduate? Will you get the job? Will you ever get well? Will you accomplish retirement goals and live out your dreams? It’s enough to raise your blood pressure and make your eye twitch. That good night’s sleep you wanted? Gone. These are times when God leans down and whispers, “Dear one, you’ve moved from your role as worshiper and stepped into My role as provider…”

We were not meant to carry the future – it’s a weight only God can bear. We were made to glorify Him through our daily living and worship – right where we are today. In the process, He promises to provide… one day at a time. The future is not ours to figure out, nor are the answers to our needs. Let’s leave that role in its rightful place.

Therefore I tell you: Don’t worry about your life. (Matthew 6:25)

He causes grass to grow for the livestock and provides crops for man to cultivate, producing food from the earth… and bread that sustains human hearts. (Psalm 104:14-15)

The Lord will continually lead you; He will feed you even in the parched regions… You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring that continually produces water. (Isaiah 58:11 NET)

O Lord, help me to channel today’s energy into worshiping You and doing the work You’ve given me to do right now. I love You and have faith that You will keep Your promise to provide in my future – because You know what I need long before I do.
