Conversation Starter

It’s kind of staggering, really. In this Scripture, God invites us to sit down and have a conversation with Him about our sin. He knows all about the selfishness, complacency, the words we spoke in anger, the grumbling and complaining. Our hearts are covered in stains, weighed down by guilt and shame. It’s a problem, all right. And there’s nothing we can do to solve it. We have nothing to bargain with, nothing we can bring to the table.

But God, in His great mercy and love, offers us the deal of centuries: His Son Jesus will pay the price and take the penalty in our place. He will cover for us. More than that, He will cleanse us: scrub our heart fresh and clean and forgive us through and through. All we have to do is receive this incredible gift. Receive His forgiveness. As often as we come to Him, as often as we ask, He will make us new.

I confess my sins; I am deeply sorry for what I have done. Psalm 38:18 NLT

Have mercy on me, O God, because of Your unfailing love. Because of Your great compassion, blot out the stain of my sins. Psalm 51:1 NLT

Create pure thoughts in me and make me faithful again. Psalm 51:10 CEV

Come now, let us reason together, says the LORD: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be white as snow. Isaiah 1:18 ESV

Jesus, I can’t thank You enough for what You have done for me. I’m so grateful to You. I receive Your love, Your mercy, Your grace – and I rest in Your embrace.
