Capturing Moments

Below is an excerpt from 100 Days of Less Hustle, More Jesus written by Shanna Noel, a longtime friend of DaySpring. This devotional journal was written with you in mind, to remind you to slow down, take a deep breath, and remember that He is God over everything.

Think of some of your most memorable moments – maybe times when you marveled at nature, witnessed a milestone, or shared laughter with loved ones. Sometimes you want so much to hold onto those moments that you scramble to capture a photo or vide. But fumble with that device for too long and the opportunity passes. So goes the story of documenting our lives with pocket technology. We stand back to observe more and lose ourselves the moment less. We forfeit the true experience of presence and the joy of connection. God gave us the gift of making memories for a reason. And while it’s nice to have images to look back on, sometimes it’s even better to fully live in those moments and capture them only in our hearts.

This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. (Psalm 118:24 ESV)

But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. (Luke 2:19 NIV)

Every good and perfect gift is from above. (James 1:17 NIV)

You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore. (Psalm 16:11 ESV)

If you are searching for peace within the beautiful moments of life, looking for a way to anchor yourself to the present and live fully in the now, pray this prayer to the Father today:

Help me savor the moments, Jesus. Thank You for the gift of this one, beautiful life. Don’t let me complicate things, Lord, or be distracted from the things that don’t matter. Show me how to live life fully and beautifully in the present that you have blessed me with. Amen.
