Busy Doesn't Equal Worth

For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. EPHESIANS 2:8-9

We live in a hurry-up world. If we don’t keep up, we fall behind. We often associate busyness and productivity with our worth. I have had this perspective on worth much of my life, especially in college. I felt like if I wasn’t busy or productive with classwork, I didn’t know what to do with myself. I let life pass me by as I put my worth in my time spent working and studying. Today, I still struggle with this tendency with my job.

When finding our worth in what we do each day makes it hard for us to rest, we find ourselves drained and defeated. We shouldn’t associate worthiness with doing good work. Our worth shouldn’t be defined by putting checkmarks in our planners. So what is it all for? We’re reminded that ultimately, our work is for the Lord. Check this out in Colossians 3:17: “And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”

Our work is meant to glorify God, and our worth is found in Him alone. So work joyfully, but also rest deeply when you need it. You are more than what you do!

GO FOR IT!

If you associate your worth with your busyness, you can find yourself defeated and exhausted. You can’t earn your worth. It was given to you as a gift through God’s love for you. If you’re struggling with finding your worth or realizing it was in the wrong place, know that you can find it in Jesus. You are worthy!
