Authentic Life

Are you a truth-teller? Not in the sense of telling a lie versus telling the truth. But how authentically do you share your life with others? Do you offer the G-rated to ensure that no one knows you’re an actual human being who struggles sometimes? Or do you share some of it but leave out the embarrassing parts because someone might think less of you? Here’s a funny thing about truth-telling: being vulnerable in your interactions with others often has the opposite effect than what you’d expect. It disarms people and invites them to be honest about their own lives. Following Jesus requires slowing down long enough to pay attention to what’s going on inside us and then being willing to share it – even with just one trusted friend. Don’t be lured into telling the social media version of your life. Be a pioneer for Christ-centered authenticity.

When the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all the truth. (John 16:13 HCSB)

Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbor, for we are all members of one body. (Ephesians 4:25 NIV)

But His answer was: “My grace is all you need, for My power is greatest when you are weak.” (II Corinthians 12:9 GNT)

For at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light. (Ephesians 5:8 ESV)

Lord, You know all the ways I try to hide from You and others. Help me to live more authentically in the light of Your love every day.
